On Thursday I went to a figure drawing workshop. It was in a dance studio. The model was wonderful and I was ready to draw. We started with ten 2-minute poses, in which I floundered. Even when I was drawing the figure every day, I never got the hang of gesture. After twenty minutes my butt was really starting to hurt from the rock-hard drawing horse. Good start.
She did four 5-minute poses and then two 10's. I had a hard time concentrating. This was the first and only decent drawing that day. It came from a 20-minute pose. My initial plan for the day was to break all the rules and draw with my own style. That's when I learned/remembered that I don't have anything to say about the figure.
I love the look of figurative drawings; realistic or otherwise. I just don't like drawing it.
It wasn't a waste of time, though, because I got to know myself a bit better. I like it when that happens.
P.S. I spent the day editing another art video! I'm uploading it tomorrow. Check out my last two here and be sure to subscribe if you like them!
