I have always loved the aesthetic of black line drawings but I've never considered myself comfortable with a pen--or pencil for that matter. Paint brushes are my usual tool of choice.I decided to expand and play with microns more. Creating abstractions with line in new ways. In my paintings I rely heavily on color but with line and limited palettes it's all about composition and pattern. In the drawing above I recreated the meshy web-y pattern that I posted here. This one is similar but even more simplistic. This type of drawing is so relaxing and has a wonderful meditative quality. It's especially great if I feel stuck and don't know what to make. After using the Micron for a bit I needed some color. I used a bit of watercolor because I wanted the bold black lines to show through. This Moleskine journal is not one with watercolor paper but I rather like the affect it has. The paper is almost water-resistant at first and then when it does finally absorb it gets dark in that area and stains the page. It can't take much water and will bleed through to the next page if you get it too wet.
I'm going to focus on line and add more drawing into my finished pieces.
