Ever since I started receiving homework in school, sometime in elementary, I wanted to make a planner work for me. (Weird kid right?) I loved the look of scribbled pages and keeping organized. However I never liked the layouts. There was either not enough room to write or too much that I didn't use. I'd go for a week using it and then forget about it because it just didn't feel natural. Fast forward to University when I had a lot of things to keep track of and I still didn't have a proper way to do it. I bought a Filofax and was so excited because I was super professional! But I used it for a week and it found a home in the back of the closet. Then I got an iPhone. I have tried so many apps and synced to my computer but nothing ever stuck, because it wasn't exactly the way I needed it. Sometime last week when I was up late with insomnia (I'm beginning to think I'm a bat) I found an entire genre of DIY on Pinterest called DIY Planners. I had no idea! There are people that make printables and decorate with Washi tape! It is a new world that I quickly fell into. Shortly after that I got brainstorming and designed my own! I used my Personal Filofax which I luckily bought a hole punch for back then, so I'm able to easily make my own inserts. I used my old dividers and made new tabs and labels. The front section is where I keep my notes. I've sectioned it into Blog Ideas, Art, Etsy and Lists. Each of the sections have various scraps of paper. Either notecards that I punched or some of my leftover Filofax paper. I put Washi tape on some, just for fun. In the List section I started a few that I know I will use. Favorites to keep track of for my Makeup Blog, books I'm reading or want to, and wish list. (A wish list is great for when your birthday comes and don't want to tell people Gift card.) I made monthly overviews for anniversaries and birthdays. I made these pages a bit wider so they show behind my notes in the front. (I only made monthlies through July because I didn't want it so stuffed! I'll add them as I need it.) Now for the daily organization, I kept it super simple. I have a clear fly-leaf to put stickies on and I just gave myself plenty of loose pages behind each monthly. I've used it for a little over a week and I love it. I keep a running to-do list for the month, then on the blank paper I write the day and date and what I want to accomplish. The best part is if I don't have something going on, I don't write that date down and don't waste paper! Plus if there are things that don't get finished I can just strike through the date and write the current one. No need to transfer anything. I love that I can move pages around as well because it's a binder. I just had to tell everyone that maybe you need to make your own planner for it to work for you! I'm glad I bought the stickies back then! They come in handy for quick notes. Here's what the outside looks like. Pretty nondescript. But it's great. When I wasn't feeling well, I watched countless videos on "Filofax Organization and Flip throughs." This is what is working for me now but the options are endless. Do you have a planner? Or do you use an app? Let me know in the comments! Happy arting! xx
