When I made this page I realized the potential for yarn stamps. It's a fun way to make background patterns of anything you'd like! All you need is a piece of cardboard (I used a piece from my hairdryer box), yarn, glue and gesso or acrylic paint (optional.) Here are the super simple steps!
- Choose a piece of cardboard large enough for the stamp you want to make.
- Staple the starting end of yarn to the cardboard. This makes it easier.
- Using your glue (I used Aleene's Tacky Glue) draw the shape you want. Since I knew ahead of time that I was going to just do a spiral, drawing with the glue was fine. If you have a more intricate idea I would suggest sketching with a pencil first.
- Optional: I applied two coats of gesso (you can use acrylic paint) so that the yarn would lose its absorbency.
Have you ever tried making a yarn stamp? Or used a found object as a stamp? I'd love to hear all about it!
