It was so great to be back in my studio today! It was especially nice because it rained on and off all day. I have been watching so many Donna Downey (love her!) YouTube videos lately and art journaling is always on my mind, so I couldn't wait to get started! You saw this picture (above) on my instagram last week and now I had the time to sit down with it again. I used a gesso and acrylic paint together as a first layer.
I knew right away that I had to just jump in and not be too precious, too soon (something that I'm currently trying to avoid with all my work.) The ink drips broke up the space and added the verticality it needed. While the drips were drying I started two index cards. I added texture with gesso on one and purple paint and writing on the other. I ended up using both in this spread. Then it was time to take this little guy for a walk. I'm glad that I did, because I found a great leaf that I decided to incorporate.
I camouflaged the note cards with ink and water color. This is where I stopped for the day mostly because it was getting too soppy. I feel like there is more to be done. Even though I'm trying to let go, I played it safe again... I'm not sure what the protocol is in these types of situations. Do I keep going? Do I move on? Maybe I'll come back to it awhile from now. Either way I'm really enjoying the process. Here's a sneak peek of the second journal that I started today! I'll tell you more about it soon.
